The first game of a championships is never easy, as both teams try to gel quickly while feeling out their unknown opponent.
Sydney took about 15 minutes to find their rhythm, but then scored two quick goals followed by another just prior to half time to go into the huddle in a positive frame of mind.
Starting the second half with an early goal secured the win for Sydney, but then they dropped their guard and conceded a penalty corner to give Lithgow a sniff.
Regrouping and solidifying their defense, Sydney continued moving the ball around and slammed home 3 more goals, before losing focus and allowing Lithgow to score a brace of goals late. Sydney also grabbed a late goal to finish the scoring, but the concession of two late goals showed that Sydney need to focus for the full 50 minutes.
